Points to note for peanut butter filling and recommended machines

14 Feb 2025

Peanut butter has a creamy texture and rich peanut flavor. It is rich in nutrition and is often used as a spread or seasoning.

Peanut butter usually has a high viscosity, which depends on the degree of grinding of the peanuts and whether ingredients such as oils and sugars are added. The viscous nature requires the use of equipment that can handle thick fluids during the filling process.

During the packaging and filling process of peanut butter, considering its special physical properties and chemical composition, there are several key points that require special attention to ensure product quality and production efficiency:

1. Viscosity and fluidity
Filling equipment selection: The high viscosity of peanut butter requires the use of filling equipment suitable for high-viscosity fluids, such as piston fillers or gear pump fillers. These equipment can accurately control the filling volume to avoid leakage or uneven filling.
Temperature control: Some peanut butters become more fluid at higher temperatures. Peanut butter can be heated moderately to improve fluidity and facilitate filling and flow. Usually heated to between 40-60 degrees Celsius, but avoid excessive temperatures that cause flavor loss or oil decomposition.
2. Oil separation
Stability issues: During storage, peanut butter may experience oil floating, resulting in stratification. A certain amount of stabilizer or emulsifier can be added during packaging to help the oil and peanut solid components mix evenly.
Packaging method: Use packaging methods that can prevent air from entering, such as sealed bottles or soft bags, to reduce oxidation reactions and thus reduce oil separation.
3. Selection of packaging materials
Sealing: The packaging material should have good sealing properties to prevent air and moisture from entering. Bottles usually use glass bottles, plastic bottles or aluminum foil bags, while bags may use sealable plastic bags.
Material adaptability: The packaging material of peanut butter needs to adapt to high fat, high salt and strong viscosity. The material must be oil-resistant and corrosion-resistant, and will not react chemically with peanut butter.
4. Automation and production efficiency
Automated production line: In order to improve production efficiency, peanut butter packaging usually requires automated equipment for filling, sealing, labeling and other links to ensure speed and consistency.
Filling accuracy: For large-scale production, filling accuracy is very important to ensure that the amount of peanut butter in each bottle is consistent to avoid waste or shortage.

The machines used to package and fill peanut butter need to be highly accurate and efficient. Here are some types of machines suitable for packaging and filling peanut butter:

1. Liquid filling machines: Peanut butter is a thick liquid, so a filling machine designed to handle viscous fluids is required. These machines are usually able to accurately control the filling amount of each bottle to ensure that the amount of peanut butter in each container is consistent.

2. Piston filling machines: These machines use pistons to control the filling amount and are suitable for handling sticky and heavy materials. The high viscosity of peanut butter makes piston filling machines particularly effective.

3. Vertical or horizontal packaging machines: These machines are suitable for packaging peanut butter. They can handle a variety of different types of packaging materials, such as bottles, bags or cans. The machines are designed with the flow of materials in mind to ensure that there will be no blockage during the packaging process.

4. Automated sealing machines: Used to seal the peanut butter after filling. Different sealing equipment can be selected according to the different types of packaging containers (such as bottle caps, bag seals, etc.).

5. Mixer: If the peanut butter contains ingredients such as oil and sugar that need to be mixed, a mixer can be used to ensure that all ingredients are mixed evenly to avoid stratification.

6. Filling and bottling line: This automated production line usually includes filling machines, conveyor belts, sealing machines, labeling machines and other equipment, which is suitable for large-scale production needs and can improve production efficiency.
